Fencing is a sport where strategy, precision, and mental strength play a crucial role. Among Switzerland’s emerging talents, Alban Aebersold stands out with his elegance on the piste and unwavering determination. As a high-level épée fencer, he perfectly embodies the values of rigour and excellence cherished by Piguet Galland.
We had the pleasure of speaking with him to learn more about his journey, how he manages pressure, and the importance of his partnership with our private bank.
"I started fencing at the age of seven because I’m a fan of the Star Wars saga, and my mother could no longer take me to football training."
Behind this anecdote lies a passion that has never left him. What initially served as a way to live out his Jedi dreams quickly evolved into a real-life project. Alban managed to transform his love for the lightsaber into a high-level sports career, with the épée as his weapon of choice.
"Before a competition, I like to chat and laugh with the whole team—it helps me think about something else. I also like to remind myself that stressing before a competition would not benefit me in any way."
This relaxed approach allows him to approach each competition with a calm mindset. Instead of letting stress take over, Alban chooses to enjoy the present moment with his teammates. This ability to remain calm under pressure is a valuable asset on the piste.
"I am very happy to represent Piguet Galland on the fencing piste because the banking sector requires a high level of discipline, precision, and determination—qualities I also need as a fencer. This sharing of common values, to which I would add elegance, is very important to me, and Piguet Galland embodies them perfectly."
Elegance, discipline, and precision: these values, common to both fencing and the banking world, form the foundation of this partnership. For Piguet Galland, supporting an athlete like Alban Aebersold means promoting these qualities and affirming our commitment to excellence.
"I am currently injured, so my goal is to heal this injury and prepare to return in the best possible shape for next season. My main objective is Olympic qualification for the Los Angeles Games, which means I first need to qualify in the World Cup stages and prove myself there. During this season without competition due to my injury, I am focusing on physical and mental preparation to return to a high level in September."
Injury management is an integral part of a high-level athlete's career. Alban approaches this period with the same rigour and determination he displays on the piste. His goal is clear: to come back stronger, with optimised preparation to tackle the next season in the best possible condition.
We eagerly look forward to seeing Alban Aebersold return to competition, armed with his épée and his steely mindset. The entire Piguet Galland team wishes him a speedy recovery and supports him through this crucial phase of his career.
